Looking For Latisse

I’m sure many of you have now seen the advertisements for Latisse, a new product on the market to treat eyelash hypotrichosis ( loss of eyelashes).  Well this is a good news bad news story for we Canadians.  The good news is that it really works!  Latisse is developed from Lumigan, a prescription eye drop that is used to treat glaucoma. It has long been noted to have a happy side effect—lush, long eyelashes.  By reducing the level of bimatoprost, the manufacturer, Allergan, has created a once-a-day product that promotes eyelash growth in two to four months with few side-effects.  It is easily applied with a small disposable brush that is swept along the top of the eyelashes like eyeliner.  It is thought that the active ingredient increases the length of time the hair will grow as well as the amount of the hair grown.

Now for the bad news:  Latisse is not available in Canada  yet.  I have heard that it will be available in the spring, but Health Canada has never been known to give quick approvals for new pharmaceutical products.  When Latisse comes to market, it will only be available by prescription, through your Physician.  It also has a hefty price tag.  A one month supply is around $120.00US.  As with all prescriptions, there are potential side effects. These can be eye itching and redness and it may also temporarily darken the skin of the eyelid.  It could be a miracle for some, but it comes at a cost.

Back to the good news.  We carry another product called Revitalash that can also effectively treat those disappearing eyelashes and eyebrows.  Revitalash is a lash conditioner that really can give you longer, thicker,  fuller eyelashes.  It works as a conditioner works for the hair on your head, by plumping the cuticle of the hair and protecting the hair shaft from breakage.  Having used the product myself, I can tell you with all honesty that it does work.  Similar to Latisse, it is applied with an applicator wand along the top of the eyelashes like eyeliner.  It generally takes four to twelve weeks to reach full effectiveness, but your patience will be rewarded.  The last bit of good news is the price.  It costs $160.00 for a tube that will last you for at least 6 months.
